Dr Elza Tjio qualified from St George’s, University of London, graduating with Merit in both Clinical Sciences and Medical Sciences. Following qualification, she completed junior doctor training posts in Buckinghamshire, Oxford and Cornwall before commencing specialist training in Histopathology within the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Dr Tjio joined 51ÁÔÆæ as a substantive Consultant Histopathologist in 2019. Her subspecialty interests include Urological Pathology, for which she is the departmental lead. She also undertakes autopsy examinations at the request of the Coroner as part of her clinical practice.
In addition to her diagnostic and clinical responsibilities, Dr Tjio holds a number of professional leadership and educational roles. These include:

- Medical Appraiser
- BMA Local Negotiating Committee (LNC) Representative for Senior Doctors
- Senior College Examiner, Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath)
- Council Member, British Division of the International Academy of Pathology (BDIAP)
Dr Tjio is fully validated in digital pathology reporting and is continuing to develop a specialist practice in medico-legal work.
