Pathology

The Pathology Service at 51ÁÔÆæ & District NHS Foundation Trust works with doctors and nurses to help diagnose your condition and monitor the effectiveness of your treatment.

This pathology service is delivered by Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP (IPS), a joint venture between the Pathology departments of , and .

We test blood and other samples from GP and hospital patients in our accredited laboratories. Requests for some specialised tests are sent away to other accredited laboratories in the UK.

We also provide a mortuary service to the hospital and local Coroner.

The Department is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of phlebotomists, medical laboratory assistants, biomedical scientists, clinical scientists and consultant pathologists. If you have been referred by a GP, it is unlikely that you will have direct contact with our staff unless you have a blood test at one of our two blood test sites. However, if you’re a hospital patient, you may meet one of our consultants as well as our phlebotomists.
